Save more money now...PPO health insurance?

I had one client had ppo health insurance for a while I believe like 6 months or more and she was very upset. She was soo upset to the point she canceled her policy. I meet her through our marketing department because she responded to an ad we placed in the classified for affordable health insurance policy. If I can recall she was a single lady in her forties with no exisitng health coverage. She took the time to explain why she has no health policy. It turns out that she found out later that her doctor was not in the ppo network.

There are many types of networks and phcs is the most poplular network to check if your doctor, specialist, and hospitals are in the network. Her specialist doctor was out of the network therefore she could not get the discounted rate for treatment for the gastro condition. She was required to get a barium swallow, x ray of the GI and a scope to check her stomach which was ordered by the specialist. What does this have to do with PPO insurance?

Well, it means it can make or break your out of pocket expense for cash. With an out of network visit to your doctor which means your doctor is not in the ppo network called PHCS in some health companies. This will result of a more expensive health bill which you don't want to see like this lady. I believe her health broker did not take the time to explain the pros and cons of ppo plans.

Yes, it can save you money but it does no good if the carrier for health cannot help pay the bill or provide the discount network rate. I always ask first if my clients have their doctor in the network for general and specialist that is for service. Does your hospital participate in the network? These are some basic question you must ask if you plan to invest in PPO health insurance plans.

What about when you travel away to another state for business and pleasure and need to go to the emergeny room. Are you covered for emergency medical expenses if have an accident? What about if you sprained your ankle do you have to pay out of PPO network prices?

For example, My cousin a University of Texas student when he was in college back in the day we were all playing basketball. He went up for a rebound or tried to to catch the basketaball in the air after the shot hit the steal iron room he landed on someones foot and we all heard a pop. The popping noise was like you hear from when you open new coke can.

There was my cousin on the ground grimacing and gasping for air and his right ankle foot looked swollen. He was in soo much pain that we had to stop the basketball game. We took him to the emergency room and the nurse if he had health insurance. Fortunately, he had a student card/pass for health coverage. That was comforting to know at the time that he was covered because going to the emergency room can be expensive especially if the hospital was not in the network.

He had to pay a 150 dollar deductible and I believed it would be waived if was admitted to outpatient hospital stay. It turned out that he only needed cold therapy which they applied the RICE method for sprained injuries. RICE is a method they use to treat acute injuries. Later, he was sent home with crutches and advised to stay at home to rest. He only had to pay a deductible but I was not sure if he had to pay co payment for the crutches and medical service or not.. some health insurance carriers make you pay co payment for emergecny room and some just make you pay deductible only so check with your health broker for details.

1. PPO health insurance is cheaper than most plans because it's cheaper than cobra health insurance. I know a friend of mine who has a family of 4...two adults and two children, Unfortunately he was let go by his job so he needed health coverage bad and cobra health insurance was available at the time. I found out that he was paying an arm and a leg for coverage I believe around 1500 dollars a month. I thought that was crazy to pay that much so we shopped around for some PPO plans and turned out to good news. I ran health quotes for him on my computer software and we got a quote from one of the major health carriers for 450 dollars.

This was a PPO plan with a 5000 dollar deductible. This would save him over a thousand dollars in health premiums. Is that awesome or what! We made sure his doctors, specialist, hospitals, were in the the PPO network so they can qualify for the discounted rate for medical service. I also added an accident insurance for his son because he was involved in football, baseball, and other sports.

The accident plan would cover his son for any types of accidental injuries including sports, etc. This made sense to have him for that plan for only 50 dollars extra per month. just in case if he needed major surgery for something.

2. PPO health insurance is cheaper because you get quotes from many many different health companies. All these companies are competing for your business and you might get confused because there are so many different types of ppo plans in just one company. Find a health broker to make it really simple....keep it simple and eventually you will find the best ppo rate plan for you or your family.
